Camp NaNoWriMo

36dbff0dfc13c01682d9a80790f23934April is coming! You know what April is right? It’s Camp National Novel Writing Month. because really every month should be NANOWRIMO. Last year wasn’t the greatest for me. I made commitments and then failed spectacularly. Truthfully, I had a lot of things happen in 2015. I bought a house, had a relationship with a room mate explode into a thousand tiny pieces and then moved into said house. Plus I started a major home renovation project and was fighting for a promotion at work.  As 2016 starts, my life has finally quieted down and I’m looking forward to start putting more effort into the things I want to do. Namely writing.

And hey! If you’re camping this year, why not send me a message and we can be buds! I’m going to be reworking my “How to be Gray” novel and I would love to have friends!

The giving

I am ten when my mother wakes me in the middle of the night. She puts her fingers over my mouth and tells me to stay quiet. She wraps a sweater around my arms and pulls me past my sleeping brother and father, towards the door.

The night air is cool and sweet. It’s summer and the crickets are singing and fireflies are dancing to the beat.

My mother pulls me to the door of my grandparents house. Grannie Amelia stares at me, it’s dark but I can see she’s been crying. “Hurry,” she says, ushering inside and down the the spare bedroom. Inside is my Grandfather, he is frail and laying in a bed like the ones at the clinic. Machines help him breathe and patches of his skin are blue. My mother tells me he is sick and lifts me up to sit on the edge of his bed.Read More »

Broken World

They say we broke the world, making most of the area around the equator unlivable. They say we’re mutants, freaks, that we go against god. That we’re unnatural. Father says it’s because they are jealous because they can’t do the things we can and that terrifies them. He says they broke the world first.

NaNoWriMo-Rough Synopsis

I’m super excited to present my rough synopsis for CampNaNoWriMo

df032b688622252f9ac44276b7037262When Tamsin’s Gray loses her mother to COBALT, she runs away to live with her Aunt in the Domed city ED-003. As she struggles with her new life in the dome, she finally believes that it’s possible to live a normal life without magic. But when she gets caught in the crossfire of a magical supremacists attack, she’s forced to reveal herself as a high level Warlock to save a friend and is arrested as a sympathizer. Taken into custody by the Ifrit, the magical protectors of the domes, she’s offered a deal. Help the Ifrit find the terrorists before they attack again or face imprisonment.

How to be Gray: World Building

In the domed city of ED-003 magic is prohibited…

3d5ca8f32426bca3b2a5bf6a8c60d946In the early 220’s magic becomes mainstream. Twenty years later, a band of powerful warlocks named the Effreets accelerated global warming, creating world wide famine, a large per cent of the world’s population perished and countries fell apart. Terrified by the raising magic threat, the free societies give advanced powers to the government to protect them. The great magic war of 2045 begins. The war triggers a leap in technology and the “COBALT” virus is created to attack the magical population. The UFOW surrenders in 2248, though much of world around the equator has become a barren wasteland. Russia, Japan, Canada, the New Republic of China and the Neo-UK  become the new world superpowers. Magic usage becomes prohibited and massive domed cities rise out of the ruins of the old society. Those with the magic potential live in segregated neighbourhoods within the domes where they are monitored. Those outside the domes, struggle to survive.

Camp NaNoWriMo : How to be Gray

3f51a43c3dda24bf9b54a1d2446e0e8eI’ve decided that instead of doing a rewrite of the novel I prototyped in November, I’m going to start something new.

“How to be Gray,” is a story idea I had in college. I lived about twenty blocks away from the campus which is a fairly long walk in the wintertime. There was something about the snow and way it makes the whole world change color that I really liked.  It was at this time a character was bore and it’s taken me years to finally figure out her story. It’s been through so many incarnations I’ve really lost count.

Then about a month ago it hit me that I wasn’t in the right setting and suddenly pieces started falling into place. Now all I have to do is scramble to get a really rough outline done by April 1st.

Calling all opinions!

Last November I worked on the first draft of my fairy tale novel, “Fairest of them all.” But once I was done, I was very unhappy with it. It didn’t really have a plot so I worked hard to put together a rough outline that I could follow as I attempted a second draft. But I am still deeply unhappy with the general plot and most importantly the ending. It’s missing something but I’ve been unable to figure out what it is. So I’m making a plea for help from whoever is willing to take a look at it.

You can find the Outline right here…
