Camp NaNoWriMo

36dbff0dfc13c01682d9a80790f23934April is coming! You know what April is right? It’s Camp National Novel Writing Month. because really every month should be NANOWRIMO. Last year wasn’t the greatest for me. I made commitments and then failed spectacularly. Truthfully, I had a lot of things happen in 2015. I bought a house, had a relationship with a room mate explode into a thousand tiny pieces and then moved into said house. Plus I started a major home renovation project and was fighting for a promotion at work.  As 2016 starts, my life has finally quieted down and I’m looking forward to start putting more effort into the things I want to do. Namely writing.

And hey! If you’re camping this year, why not send me a message and we can be buds! I’m going to be reworking my “How to be Gray” novel and I would love to have friends!

Kin Fables

mGQpAL

Recently on tumblr, I discovered a series of beautifully shot short films on youtube called the Kin Fables. I watched all three and stopped breathing. I’ve always loved fairy tales as a kid, my father used have a series of beautiful hard covered books all about the different fairy creatures. So I’ve always had special place in my heart for them. Imagine my surprise when I discovered these! Not to mention they’re Canadian! I was a little too late to get on the bandwagon to support the directors but I’ll be keeping an eye on them in the future! vbx40Ayw4b21

You should definitely watch them, they need more views. Below are the links to all three videos.

01 – Kin

02 – Salvage

03 – Requiem

It’s not broken

The ball soars high. I go for it, so does Kelly. He has more reach than me, and I can see the ball flying off his fingers. The next thing I see is his elbow. The crunch hits me in the nose and I stumble back. I cover my face it lights up with pain. My team doesn’t notice, but the opposite team does.

They all turn to watch me and blood covers my nose. I can’t breathe through the tears and blood.  They rush me to the first aid room and clean me up.

Good news, doc says it’s not broken. I get the afternoon off work. Still not sure it’s a good day.

The giving

I am ten when my mother wakes me in the middle of the night. She puts her fingers over my mouth and tells me to stay quiet. She wraps a sweater around my arms and pulls me past my sleeping brother and father, towards the door.

The night air is cool and sweet. It’s summer and the crickets are singing and fireflies are dancing to the beat.

My mother pulls me to the door of my grandparents house. Grannie Amelia stares at me, it’s dark but I can see she’s been crying. “Hurry,” she says, ushering inside and down the the spare bedroom. Inside is my Grandfather, he is frail and laying in a bed like the ones at the clinic. Machines help him breathe and patches of his skin are blue. My mother tells me he is sick and lifts me up to sit on the edge of his bed.Read More »

Broken World

They say we broke the world, making most of the area around the equator unlivable. They say we’re mutants, freaks, that we go against god. That we’re unnatural. Father says it’s because they are jealous because they can’t do the things we can and that terrifies them. He says they broke the world first.
